The essential surf spots of Crozon
The Crozon peninsula is known as a major surfing area in Brittany, so much so that surfers flock there from all over to make it their playground, whatever the season, whatever the temperature… Indeed, the peninsula is home to countless surf spots with diverse and varied exposures. The oceanic depressions, which generate strong swells, offer to the Breton coastline disparate and unique conditions, which make the happiness of the surfers, beginners as confirmed. Equipped with a wetsuit and neoprene shoes, you will be ready to face the Breton waves, in breathtaking maritime landscapes.
Spot of La Palue in Crozon
La Palue is certainly the most famous spot of the peninsula, but also and especially one of the most difficult to access. To be able to ride there, it is better to have a good physical condition and to be an experienced rider. Indeed, if the landscapes are sumptuous, the waves can be powerful, especially when the swell enters due west, at high tide! It is also possible to tube (“figure which consists in being in the barrel, i.e. to be covered by the lip of the wave”) when the wind comes from the east.
Lostmarch Spot
Lostmarch is a famous spot in Brittany, especially during high tidal ranges where great tubes are formed at low tide. However, don’t be mistaken, Lostmarch offers excellent surfing conditions at high tide, with exploitable peaks (the highest part of the wave) and an elevator near the point to reach the line-up (the bar) easily, especially when the swell is consistent and powerful. Finally, at Lostmarch, the sandbanks are known to be more stable than at La Palue and therefore produce longer and more solid waves.
Spot of the Goulien
900 meters long, the Goulien is a magnificent beach of fine sand, but also an ideal place for surfing, windsurfing, wave-skiing and kite-surfing in complete safety. If the panorama is splendid, with notably the cliffs in the south and in the north of the Anse de Dinan, this spot is completely different from those presented previously. Indeed, here the beach is flatter, generating softer waves. Beginners or occasional surfers are the majority.
Kersiguenou
With a magnificent view on the famous Tas de Pois of the Penhir point, the beach of Kersiguénou is located just next to the beach of Goulien. This one is appreciated for its pleasant bathing and the possibility of surfing there in all peace, whatever the tides.
For vacationers and/or locals looking to learn, you should know that lessons in a surf school are highly recommended. However, if you are already familiar with surfing sports and do not wish to take lessons, you can always try the experience alone. Nevertheless, in these conditions, do not do it without the advice of an experienced surfer, who will certainly be able to guide you, as well on the technical and security dispositions, as on the ethical modalities inherent to the practice of this sport.
